When a project generates large volumes of trash or debris, it can be challenging to figure out the best way to get rid of it. Whether it’s cleaning out an entire house or conducting an extensive landscaping project, dealing with lots of junk can be time-consuming and frustrating. Thankfully, renting a dumpster can make it much easier to manage the mess.
The most important factor in determining the proper size dumpster to rent is knowing the volume of waste you anticipate producing. How much you produce depends on a variety of factors including family size, household habits and the type of work at hand. On average, a typical household produces around five pounds of garbage each day. Generally speaking, a standard 20-yard dumpster will be able to accommodate this volume of waste.
If you plan to conduct some sort of major remodeling or construction project at your home, yard or business, you will likely need a larger container. It is also possible that some of the waste you generate will be considered hazardous, which means that it cannot be thrown into your normal garbage collection bin. Hazardous waste includes things such as paint, chemical cleaners debris and trash pickup and even many seemingly safe products that contain substances and chemicals that are considered toxic and dangerous. Depending on the nature of your project, it is usually best to hire a professional to arrange for disposal of hazardous waste.
In addition to the bulk trash collection program, the Township does offer a recycling center for the collection of certain materials. These materials can include metal, glass, paper, plastic and electronics. The Township recycles these materials in order to conserve natural resources and protect the environment.
It is against the law to place trash, debris or litter on public streets, right-of-ways or private property. Doing so can result in a $250 fine for the property owner.
The DPW will collect leaf/lawn debris every Monday starting October through December. Please be sure to place all leaves, brush and branches in paper bags. The DPW will not accept any material in black trash bags, and does not pick up tree stumps or Christmas trees. Interstate Waste Services will collect yard waste on the first Monday in April through October. Branches must be tied smaller than 4 feet. Please do not put leaves, branches or shrubs in a pile on the street.
